The video documented the young man reaching the house's balcony, calming the two frightened young children, and preventing them from throwing themselves off due to fear, by placing water-soaked covers on them to reduce the intensity of the fire's heat on their bodies until the arrival of the civil protection agents.
Khaberni - A widely shared video shows a young Algerian risking his life to save two children trapped on the top floor of a building caught on fire, in El Sabah neighborhood, Oran state, west of the country.
The fire incident involved the intervention of a local youth named "Bicho", who climbed the ten floors of the building like Spider-Man, moving quickly from balcony to balcony, unconcerned with the risk of falling or harm.
The young man who risked his life to save the children received warm applause from the audience and recognition on social media, with calls for honoring him with a citizenship and courage medal and employing him in the civil protection in light of his heroic act.
The civil protection services clarified in a statement on Friday that "their units intervened at 12 pm in El Yasmine district, Bir El Djir municipality, to extinguish a fire that broke out in an apartment on the tenth floor".
They confirmed that "the fire was controlled thanks to the rapid and effective intervention, professionalism, and expertise of the intervening civil protection agents of various ranks, preventing its spread to the rest of the building's floors and adjacent buildings".
It was also noted that "a 32-year-old woman suffering from burns to her right hand was assisted and transferred to the First November Hospital in Essto, and a man approximately 35 years old and two children aged 06 and 08 years were also assisted."
