Khaberni - A state of fear and anxiety prevailed among the residents of Bahna village in the El Bagour center, Monufia Governorate, Egypt, after 14 people were injured in an attack by a dog suspected of having rabies.
According to preliminary information, the victims were bitten by the dog in various areas within the village and were transported to hospitals to receive first aid and preventive treatment against rabies, with medical monitoring of their conditions.
According to testimonies from several residents, the dog was seen roaming through several streets of the village before the incident occurred, prompting residents to be cautious and avoid approaching places where it might be found for fear of being bitten, urgently demanding intervention from the authorities to quickly control the situation, especially as there are still other stray dogs in the area, presenting an ongoing concern for the residents.
Residents of the village shared various accounts on social media about the nature of the attacking animal, with some suggesting it was a "salawa" while others believed it to be a "wolf", while the majority asserted it was a rabid dog, noting the continued presence of other stray dogs that pose a danger to the safety of the citizens.
In a related context, a number of residents confirmed that citizens managed to kill one of the dogs suspected of having rabies after the incident, while competent authorities continue to monitor the situation on the ground and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of the residents.
Furthermore, health authorities have renewed their warnings about the importance of immediately heading to the nearest hospital or health unit if bitten by any animal suspected of having rabies, in order to receive urgent medical care and necessary preventive vaccinations.
They also emphasized the importance of immediately reporting stray animals that may pose a threat to public health.
