While analyzing the Germany vs. Ivory Coast match on the German channel "ARD," Schweinsteiger said: "The playing style of the Ivory Coast team is a mix of African football which is unconventional, bold, and not restricted by tactics, we must be ready for fluctuations in the match."
This comment caused significant controversy, as it was described as racist by Emers Fai, the coach of the Ivory Coast.
"Schweini" responded to the accusations, saying, "I was discussing football and not individuals. This is purely a football analysis, nothing more and nothing less. I certainly did not intend to offend anyone."
