Turkey Judicial Sentences in the Death of a Family by Poisoning Inside a Hotel in Istanbul

Khaberni - A Turkish court issued today, Friday, its final judgments in the case of the death of a German family of Turkish origin, after suspecting their members were poisoned during their stay at one of Istanbul's hotels in late 2025.

The court sentenced, according to Turkish media including Oda Tv, the hotel owner to 13 years and 4 months in prison, and the owner of the pest control company and his son to 18 years each, while the worker who carried out the pesticide spraying was sentenced to 12 years, 2 months, and 20 days in prison.

The case dates back to November 9th, last year, when the Bojsek family came to Istanbul from Germany to spend a holiday, and a few days after their stay in a city hotel, the family members suffered a severe illness and were transferred to the hospital on November 13th, suspected of being poisoned.

An incident that occupied the Turks
Despite the doctors' attempts to save them, the father Serfet Bojsek, the mother Cigdem Bojsek, and their two children, Qadir Mohammed (6 years) and Masal (3 years), died in an incident that attracted wide attention in Turkey and Germany, after which the authorities launched a broad investigation focusing on the accommodation conditions in the hotel and the pesticide spraying operation carried out at the site.

This case is one of the most high-profile poisoning incidents that attracted public attention in Turkey last year, after the family of four died within days of their hospitalization, at a time when the circumstances of the incident raised widespread questions about the hotel's safety procedures and pesticide usage practices.

The investigations showed that the suspicions were centered around a pesticide spraying operation carried out at the hotel, leading the authorities to arrest several hotel and pest control company officials, and refer them to court after the end of the technical investigations.

The court sessions in recent months witnessed the listening to expert reports and the presentations of the prosecution and defense, while the dispute centered on the extent of responsibility of each accused and the relationship between the pesticide spraying operation and the death of the family members.

The case had gained significant attention in both Turkey and Germany, especially since the family had come to Istanbul to spend a holiday before the trip ended tragically with the deaths of the father, mother, and their two children, prompting the authorities to launch a widespread criminal investigation, which concluded by charging six people, before the court today sentenced four of them, while acquitting two defendants due to lack of evidence of their responsibility for the incident.
