Khaberni - Engineer Andrei Novikov, an air conditioning repair specialist, indicates that leaving the air conditioner running almost constantly can lead to reduced efficiency, increased consumption, and deterioration of indoor air quality.
He says: "Operating modern air conditioners that are always maintained for short periods without supervision usually poses no problem. However, leaving the conditioner on for hours or days without need is not a good idea. It increases the load on the compressor, accelerates its consumption, and could lead to premature failure."
In addition, setting the wrong temperature could pose a problem. He points out that many try to cool the room quickly by setting the temperature to 16-18 degrees Celsius.
He says: "Practically, this does not help cool the apartment quickly, but forces the air conditioner to operate almost continuously. The optimal temperature is less than the external temperature by 5-7 degrees. Because it helps maintain a comfortable indoor climate and reduces the load on the device."
According to him, the technical condition of the air conditioner should be monitored. Dust, pet hair, dirt particles, and other impurities may gradually accumulate on the filters, hindering air circulation, increasing energy consumption, and loading the conditioner. Therefore, a person should clean the conditioner filters themselves and regularly.
He says: "With intensive use of the air conditioner, it is advisable to perform this operation at least once a month and more frequently if there are pets in the home or if windows are opened often."
He adds: "Preventative maintenance is recommended at least once a year, preferably before summer. Because it helps maintain device efficiency and reduces the likelihood of breakdown during the summer."
He notes that among the signs indicating the need for air conditioner maintenance are unusual odors, decreased cooling capacity, noise, and moisture condensation inside the room.
