Khaberni - The incident of the assault on a dentist inside a medical center in Shubra El-Kheima has consumed the Egyptian public opinion in the last few hours, after videos spread showing the dentist screaming for help after the assault, with clear signs of injury and blood on her arm, amid confirmations of her suffering from a compound fracture that required surgery to install plates and screws.
On the other hand, users circulated video clips of a veiled woman appearing with a wound on her face and severe bloodstains, claiming that one of the medical staff threw a glass cup at her after an altercation with the dentist, causing her injuries, confirming that this incident was the spark that led to the assault on the dentist.
Arrest of the Suspects
The General Syndicate of Dental Physicians, in an official statement last night Wednesday, announced that the security forces had arrested the suspects accused of assaulting the dentist while she was performing her duties, and they have been transferred to the prosecution to take the necessary legal measures.
The syndicate stated that it had moved immediately upon receiving the distress call to follow up on the health status of the dentist, noting that medical examinations proved she suffered from scratches, bruises, and a forearm fracture that required surgical intervention, affirming the continuation of monitoring the investigations and legal proceedings until she obtains her full rights.
Urgent Action from the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health and Population announced that Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Health, directed the monitoring of the health status of the dentist and providing her with necessary medical care at the highest level.
The official spokesperson for the ministry revealed that the minister contacted the Attorney General to take immediate legal action regarding the incident, confirming that the Medical Liability and Patient Safety Law No. 13 of 2025 prescribes stringent penalties against those who assault healthcare providers.
The statement noted the detention of 4 suspects and their referral to the Public Prosecution, while the ministry emphasized its commitment to protecting medical teams and providing a safe working environment for them.
Physicians' Syndicate: A Crime Against the Health System
The General Syndicate of Physicians fully supported the assaulted dentist and the Dental Syndicate, affirming that what happened represents a crime against the dentist and a violation of the sanctity of health facilities.
The syndicate emphasized the need to enforce the law and deal with any complaints through legal channels, calling for measures to prevent such assaults and provide necessary protection for medical teams during their work.
It is worth noting that this incident is not the first of its kind in Egypt, as in recent years there have been several incidents of assaults on doctors and nursing staff inside various health facilities, prompting the Physicians' Syndicate repeatedly to call for tighter security measures and harsher penalties for the assailants. With the issuance of the Medical Liability and Patient Safety Law last year, demands for strict application of the law's provisions to ensure the protection of health sector workers and prevent such incidents from recurring were renewed.
