Acquittal of the artist Jihan AlShamashirji from the charge of robbery under duress

Khaberni - The Cairo Criminal Court ruled today, Thursday, the acquittal of the artist Jihan Al-Shamashirji and 4 others from the charges of robbing a woman under duress in the Garden City area.

The artist Jihan Al-Shamashirji had surrendered herself to the court guards last May, in preparation for her trial and that of 4 others, after the Cairo Criminal Court issued a decision for their arrest and appearance.

The case dates back to last February, when a woman filed a complaint against the artist Jihan Al-Shamashirji and 4 others, accusing them of robbing her under duress, and taking possession of some sewing machines and pieces of furniture inside an apartment she used to sell some handmade products.

Robbery... and a woman injured
The investigative authorities in Cairo referred the artist and others to the criminal court for charges of committing robbery under duress, and causing serious injuries to a woman.

The public prosecutor charged the accused with possession of a "hammer" without legal justification or professional or craft necessity, stating that they used the "hammer" during the robbery, while the prosecution added that the accused took possession of belongings owned by the victim and when she resisted them, one of them hit her with a car, resulting in her injuries.

Following the announcement of the incident, the artist Jihan Al-Shamashirji issued a statement through her legal advisor last March, asking the media to be accurate in what is published about her referral to trial.

"Not a party to the dispute"
The statement issued by the legal advisor to the artist, Dr. Samir Jawed Mohammed, attorney at Cassation and the Administrative Supreme and Constitutional, clarified that the name of the artist Jihan Al-Shamashirji was mentioned in the case among common accusations with several other parties. The statement confirmed that she is not a party in the commercial dispute in question.

The statement noted that the case is currently being presented in front of the Egyptian judiciary, emphasizing full confidence in its rulings and independence.

It was explained that the publication of the referral to the court does not mean that the accusation is conclusively proven, as the final word remains for the judicial rulings after considering the case.
