Khaberni - The Tunisian national team concluded its participation in the 2026 World Cup with a new defeat, after falling to the Netherlands with a score of 3-1 in the third and final round of the group stage, thus leaving the tournament without any points and rounding off one of its worst participations in the World Cup history.
The Dutch team needed only three minutes to open the scoring, after Ellyes Skhiri mistakenly turned the ball into his country's net, continuing the streak of own goals by Arab players in the current edition of the tournament.
Just four minutes later, Brian Brobbey doubled the score with the second goal, benefiting from a superb pass from Virgil van Dijk, putting the "Clockwork Orange" in a comfortable position from the start.
Despite the tough start, the Tunisian team tried to make a comeback in the second half, and Hazem Al Mastouri successfully reduced the margin with a powerful header in the 54th minute, following a corner inside the penalty box, before the referee confirmed the goal's validity after reviewing the video assistant referee.
With this result, the Tunisian team concluded the tournament with no wins or draws after losing all three of its matches, starting with a 5-1 defeat against Sweden, then a 4-0 loss to Japan, and finally a 3-1 defeat against the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands topped the group with 7 points, setting a fiery date with the Moroccan team, which finished second in its group by goal difference behind Brazil.
Furthermore, the Tunisian team exited with an unprecedented negative record by becoming the team with the weakest defense in the 2026 World Cup, conceding 12 goals in three matches, and scoring only two goals, marking the worst defensive record among all participating teams in the tournament.
On the other hand, the Dutch team continued its strong performances and secured its place in the round of 32 with a deserved victory, confirming its readiness to enter the knockout stages with great confidence, having controlled the proceedings from the early minutes and not given its opponent a real chance to come back.
