Islamic Countries Parliaments Confirm the Importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over the Holy Sites and the TwoState Solut

Khaberni - The parliaments of the member states in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation emphasized in the closing statement issued by the 20th Conference of the Union of Member State Councils in the organization the importance and role of the Hashemite custodianship held by His Majesty King Abdullah II over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and its role in protecting the identity of the holy city and preserving its sanctities, affirming their commitment to the two-state solution as the way to achieve just and comprehensive peace, through the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on its national territory.

This was stated at the end of the 20th Conference of the Union of Member State Councils in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, hosted by the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, with the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mazen Al-Qadi, heading a parliamentary delegation.

During his participation in the conference, Al-Qadi affirmed before the Islamic parliaments that the Palestinian issue will remain the central issue of the nation, and that the continued occupation and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights, foremost among them their right to establish their independent state, constitutes a major obstacle to security, stability, and development in the region.

He also emphasized the historical role of the Hashemite custodianship in protecting the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in facing the attempts of Judaization and attacks on the identity of the holy city.

Deputy Nimr Al-Sulihat participated in drafting the closing statement of the conference, which included a clear affirmation of the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites, the centrality of the Palestinian issue, support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and the importance of maintaining the existing historical and legal status in Jerusalem.

The Jordanian parliamentary participation witnessed a series of official meetings attended by the Jordanian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Omar Al-Nahar, and the Azerbaijani ambassador to Jordan, Shahin Shakir Abdullayev, where Al-Qadi conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Abdullah II to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who affirmed his deep brotherly relationship with His Majesty, referring to the continued communication and coordination between the two countries on various issues of mutual interest, appreciating the role of Jordan led by His Majesty in enhancing security, stability, and peace in the region.

Al-Qadi also conducted official discussions with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, and the Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, focusing on ways to enhance parliamentary, economic, and investment cooperation, and expanding areas of partnership between the two countries, especially in the energy sector.

As part of his agenda at the conference, Al-Qadi conducted a series of bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Omani Shura Council Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, the first deputy of the Federal National Council of the UAE, Hamid Al Tayer, and the first deputy of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Adnan Al-Dulaimi, where they discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation and exchange of experiences, along with discussing several issues of mutual interest, and emphasizing the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the Arab and Islamic parliaments in a way that serves the interests of their peoples and common causes.

In the same context, the Jordanian-Azerbaijani Parliamentary Friendship Committee held a joint meeting chaired by Deputy Hussein Kreishan, with its counterpart in the Azerbaijani Parliament, during which they discussed prospects for parliamentary, economic, and cultural cooperation, agreed on moving forward towards signing a joint memorandum of understanding and an executive action plan, and agreed to declare 2027 as the Year of Jordanian-Azerbaijani Friendship, to enhance the relations between the two friendly peoples and give them additional momentum in various fields.

Members of the Jordanian parliamentary delegation also participated in the specialized committees of the Union, where deputies Nimr Al-Sulihat, Mahmoud Al-Naimat, Mohammed Al-Subaila, Adnan Mashouqeh, Atallah Al-Huneiti, Hussein Kreishan, Mohammed Bani Melhem, and members of the House of Notables Omar Al-Ayasra and Ghazi Al-Sarhan presented interventions and participated in meetings of committees: Permanent Palestine, Committee on Minorities and Muslim Communities, Committee on Cultural and Legal Affairs, Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs, and Committee on Human Rights, Women, and Family.

Jordan won 3 seats in these committees, while the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Awad Al-Ghwairi participated in the proceedings of the 7th meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of the Union of Member State Councils in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
