Khaberni - Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Farraya said on Thursday that Jordan will carry out all measures that help and facilitate the passage of Palestinians through the King Hussein Bridge, under directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II, and at various levels.
Al-Farraya added that the Ministry of Interior is primarily concerned with facilitating the entry of Palestinians into Jordan, noting that advance booking through the online platform is important to regulate the movement of crossing because the number of crossers is limited by the Israeli side. He pointed out that the platform is not available at the Al-Karamah crossing because the number of Palestinians allowed to pass through it is not specified.
For his part, Palestinian Interior Minister Ziad Mahmoud said that the level of coordination between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will result in field measures aimed at facilitating the Palestinian people, affirming Jordan's capability to handle the crisis in coordination with police forces and border management.
Al-Farraya conducted a surprise inspection visit to the King Hussein Bridge on Thursday, the second within a week, to review the workflow and to personally assess the level of services provided to travelers and the procedures followed at the crossing.
The visit is part of a follow-up to the conditions of the bridge and to review the reality of the services provided to travelers, as well as evaluating the measures taken to deal with the travel movement and reduce congestion.
Al-Farraya had conducted, last Sunday, a field visit to the King Hussein Bridge, during which he stressed that the bridge serves as a humanitarian crossing with a special status because it connects Jordan with the Palestinian territories and is directly affected by the procedures of the Israeli side and its operating hours and the sudden closures that sometimes occur.
During the visit, he emphasized the importance of the online platform in organizing travel movement and advance bookings according to the available capacity, affirming that adherence to advance booking contributes to reducing congestion and speeding up the processing of procedures.
He explained that the Ministry of Interior is executing projects to develop the infrastructure at the bridge, which include the construction of halls and waiting shelters for travelers, establishing new facilities for freight and public transport, in addition to refurbishing passport halls and improving the level of services provided to travelers.
Al-Farraya previously confirmed that Jordan welcomes all arrivals through the King Hussein Bridge without restrictions on the number or timing, while some cases of delay and congestion are linked to the procedures and restrictions imposed on the other side.
