Khaberni - Khaberni website learned that Lafarge Cement Company has started dismantling its factory in Al-Fuhais and the demolition procedures of its old housing without the Ministry of Environment knowing about the environmental impacts this process leaves on the residents.
According to what reached Khaberni, the president of the Environmental Protection Society in Al-Fuhais, Elias Al-Samaan, and the secretary of the society, Wajdi, met with the Minister of Environment last Monday and briefed him on the ongoing demolition activities at the Lafarge factory site. In turn, the minister directed to communicate with the company to halt any existing activities or operations until all studies and requirements related to the environmental impact assessment are completed, and to ensure the company's compliance with all applicable environmental conditions and procedures.
The company wants to build a housing project on the site covering an area of 1500 dunams amidst widespread objections from the area's residents.
