Khaberni - Tomorrow, Thursday, the tenth of Muharram, known as "Ashura Day", is one of the blessed days that the Prophet, peace be upon him, urged to fast due to its great virtue and large reward.
The General Ifta Department indicated in a research fatwa published on its website, that Ashura Day is the day when Allah Almighty saved his prophet Moses, peace be upon him, and his people from Pharaoh and his soldiers. Moses fasted as thanks to Allah Almighty, then the Prophet, peace be upon him, fasted this day when he arrived in Medina, and instructed Muslims to fast it as well.
The fatwa affirmed that it is better for a Muslim not to fast only on the tenth day, but rather to fast on the ninth and tenth of Muharram, or the tenth and eleventh, with the most complete fast being three days: the ninth, tenth, and eleventh, following what has been reported about the predecessors and scholars.
It called on Muslims to take advantage of this blessed occasion by increasing good deeds and worship, connecting with relatives, and doing righteous acts, due to the impact this has in cementing the meanings of faith and enhancing Islamic values in society.
Ashura Day forms a renewing faith milestone where Muslims recall the meanings of gratitude towards Allah Almighty, steadfastness on the truth, and emulation of the prophets and messengers, in addition to enhancing the values of faith, obedience, and closeness to Allah through righteous deeds.
