Khaberni - The director of the Land Transport Authority's office in Zarqa, Engineer Obada Az El-Din Abu Qamar, said that the regular transport project is witnessing rapid expansion across the kingdom, with the launch of an additional package to the second batch including the Karak – Zarqa, and Karak – Aqaba routes, in response to the increasing demand for these vital lines that serve a broad segment of university students, employees, and citizens, expecting the trial operation of the routes to begin during the last quarter of 2026.
Abu Qamar told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that the government has approved the operation of the two new routes with 15 medium-sized buses for each route, noting that the Land Transport Authority will begin, following the issuance of the government decision, to complete the necessary technical and operational procedures, including equipping the buses with electronic payment systems and CCTV, and transitioning the operators from individual ownership to companies operating within an integrated institutional framework.
He explained that the success of the first phase of the regular transport project was a motivation to launch the second phase, after the experience proved to be practically viable and received positive feedback from the citizens.
He noted that the second phase included 7 routes: Tafilah – Amman, Ma'an – Amman, Ajloun – Amman, Zarqa – Irbid, Zarqa – Mafraq, Jerash – Irbid, and Jerash – Mafraq, with a total of 180 medium and large buses.
He added that the idea of regular transport started in its first phase through 4 main lines: Amman – Karak, Salt – Amman, Irbid – Amman, and Jerash – Amman, responding to the rapid changes in the travel patterns of citizens and the increasing importance of time factor in their daily lives, alongside the spread of unorganized transport means such as minibuses and private vehicles that imposed additional financial burdens on the citizens.
He pointed out that the project aims to provide direct benefits to citizens through optimal time investment, and to develop the public transport sector by converting groups of buses from individual ownership to a more efficient and capable institutional system to offer sustainable and high-quality service, noting that the first phase, which started in June 2025, began with 127 buses before the number increased to 146 buses due to the growing demand for the service.
Abu Qamar confirmed that the buses operating within the project are equipped with a comprehensive electronic monitoring system including electronic payment systems and internal cameras, ensuring compliance with the highest safety and quality standards, enhancing the level of service provided to citizens, and strengthening confidence in public transport as a civilized, safe, and effective option.
He invited the citizens to take advantage of the regular transport services, as they provide strict adherence to timetables, advanced levels of safety, and monitoring of the drivers' behavior and their compliance with traffic laws, in addition to a variety of electronic payment methods that include smart cards, virtual cards via QR code technology on mobile phones, as well as bank cards, in a step that reflects the kingdom's direction towards modernizing the public transport system and establishing concepts of efficiency and sustainability in the services provided to the citizens.
