Khaberni - Dr. Anwar Dabshi al-Ghazi al-Huwaitat recounts the story of a heroic Jordanian soldier, his father, soldier Dabshi al-Ghazi al-Huwaitat, who served under military number 8656.
Soldier Dabshi was born in 1926 in the Jabal Shara mountains in the Southern Desert and raised on the principles of Bedouin valor and chivalry. In 1943, when he was just seventeen, he joined the Arab Legion. Five years later, the Arab Legion sent forces to defend Palestine, and he was among those forces.
He fought in the 1948 War alongside his colleagues in the Third Infantry Battalion, which was stationed in Jerusalem and performed admirably in the battle of Bab al-Wad. With the Jordanian Army settling in the West Bank, he served in Qalqilya, Jenin, and Tulkarm until 1957, then he was transferred to work as a trainer in the National Guard in the Karak sector, before being retired in 1962.
Despite his yearning for Palestine and what his conscience dictated as necessary to aid his brethren, in early 1967, he began smuggling weapons to the Palestinian fedayeen across the southern border using the only camel he owned. During one return trip after delivering the weapons, occupation soldiers arrested him before he could cross the border, confiscated the camel, and transferred the heroic captive to Be'er Sheva prison where he spent about a month, then to the Ramla Central Prison where he was sentenced to hard labor for 3 years.
In late 1969, he was released from prison to return to his homeland, where he spent the rest of his years among his people. In 1992, God took his soul after a long life spent serving his country.
