Khaberni - The Parliamentary Education Committee, chaired by MP Ibrahim Al-Qarallah, continued to discuss the draft law amending the Jordanian Universities Law for the year 2026, amidst demands from heads of private universities and deans to maintain the number of members of the trustees boards and to reconsider the terms of appointment of heads of private universities, vice presidents, and deans of student affairs, in a way that enhances administrative and academic stability within higher education institutions.
According to a statement by the committee on Wednesday, the heads of private universities and deans of colleges presented a set of observations and inquiries related to the draft law, aiming to develop and enhance it in a way that meets the requirements of the era and the developments witnessed in the higher education sector.
Al-Qarallah emphasized that private universities are a fundamental partner in the university and higher education system, noting that investment in education is not only measured by financial return but also by the level of culture and knowledge that the graduate carries and their ability to contribute to serving their community and country.
He said that the committee will continue to hold more meetings and gatherings to listen to observations and suggestions about the draft law, aiming for a modern legislation that keeps pace with the rapid developments in the higher education sector.
In turn, the MPs Ibrahim Al-Hamidi, Tamara Nasser Al-Din, Abdul Hadi Al-Barizat, Feryal Bani Salman, and Talal Al-Nasour underscored the importance of developing legislation regulating higher education in a way that matches modern developments and enhances the quality of education outputs, emphasizing the necessity to listen to various opinions and proposals to achieve a balanced law that serves both the universities and the students.
