Khaberni - A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that only one out of every four Americans believes there is justification for the war launched by President Donald Trump against Iran, and that the majority of Americans are concerned that the truce with Tehran will apparently not hold.
The poll, which lasted five days and ended on Monday, showed that the war is casting a shadow over Trump’s popularity, with his approval rating dropping to 34 percent, the lowest level during his second presidential term.

The poll indicated that only 23 percent of participants, and only half of them Republicans, believe that the United States is currently in a stronger position regarding Iran compared to before the war. In contrast, about 35 percent of the participants in the poll believe that Washington's position has weakened. The remaining percentage said that there has been no significant change in Washington's stance, while others have not yet decided their opinions.
Trump and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bazshkian signed a preliminary agreement on June 17, which would reopen the oil and gas shipping routes that had been stalled due to the conflict, with a reduction of the economic pressure imposed by the United States on Iran.
About 63 percent of Americans believe that it is unlikely that the agreement will lead to lasting peace between the two countries. About half of the Republicans and eight out of every 10 Democrats think it is unlikely that the agreement will result in peace. Only 18 percent of survey participants, 10 percent of them Democrats and 34 percent of Republicans, believe that lasting peace is achievable.
Trump’s approval rating concerning living costs reached 22 percent, close to its lowest levels during his presidency and lower than the approval rating of his predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden in the White House, during the period that preceded the end of his presidential term.
