Khaberni - Dr. Andrei Kondrakhin, a cardiovascular disease specialist, stated that patients with cardiovascular diseases should monitor the amount of water they drink during the summer, as increased fluid intake can strain the heart.
The doctor explained that excessive fluid intake might slow down the blood flow and cause accumulation, leading to swelling and increasing the burden on the heart muscle, making it difficult for it to pump blood efficiently. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce fluid intake when necessary, but under medical supervision and for specific periods.
Kondrakhin mentioned that in some cases, cardiologists prescribe diuretics to eliminate excessive accumulated fluid between cells, while keeping the essential fluid volume in the bloodstream. He added that the usual daily rate of water consumption is about 30 milliliters per kilogram of body weight, with the possibility of temporarily reducing this amount according to the health condition and doctor's recommendations.
