Jordans coach Experience factor made the difference in the World Cup

Khaberni - The technical director of the national football team, Jamal Al-Salami, expressed his pride in the performance his players delivered against the Algerian team, pointing out that the team deserved better results during its participation in the World Cup, but the lack of experience and exposure in such major tournaments prevented that.

Al-Salami said, in statements after the national team's loss to Algeria, that it was an intense match against a strong team that boasts outstanding players, explaining that the technical staff adopted the same approach used against Austria, based on closing down spaces and reducing the opponent's danger, especially through the flanks which are among the strongest points of the Algerian team.

Al-Salami added, "When you see the Algerian team happy with the victory achieved over us with two goals from corner kicks, that in itself is a source of pride."

He noted that the Nashama team succeeded defensively for most parts of the match, as the opponent was unable to reach the goal effectively, pointing out that one of the Algerian players was particularly troublesome for his team, while the players maintained their defensive discipline and delivered an outstanding organized performance and maintained the result.

Al-Salami praised the goalkeeper, Yazeed Abu Layla, affirming that he played a great match, and expressed pride in the level all players showed.

He explained that the team started the match in a state of confusion and made some mistakes that could have given the Algerian team an early advantage, but the players quickly got into the game's rhythm and asserted their presence; they were the better side in many phases of the encounter.

He indicated that the national team managed to score a goal in the first half and were close to adding a second goal at the start of the second half, but the lack of experience in handling such matches played a role in not capitalizing on the available opportunities, emphasizing that major matches require a build-up of experience and exposure for the players.

Al-Salami pointed out that the technical staff worked a lot on set pieces during the preparations, but mistakes remain a part of football, which led to conceding two goals from corner kicks that changed the course of the match.

Al-Salami congratulated the Algerian team on the win, wishing them success in their journey in the tournament, while at the same time affirming that the bitterness of the loss is significant since the national team deserved better results in the two matches they have played so far.

He stated that the first match against Austria experienced natural pressure and confusion as it was the players' first World Cup experience, while the team performed much better against Algeria despite the strength of the opponent, considering that the performance delivered by the players would give them greater confidence before their upcoming match against the Argentine national team, the world champions, led by their star Lionel Messi.

Al-Salami emphasized the need to put the Algeria match behind and focus on the last match of the tournament, describing it as a match of honor in which the team aims to present a level befitting their historic first participation in the World Cup.

Al-Salami expressed complete satisfaction with what the players presented, adding, "the team played great matches, and the factor of experience was the main reason for not achieving better results."

Al-Salami spoke to the players after the match and told them that they delivered a manly performance that induces pride, expressing his hope that the last match would be a fitting end to Jordan's first participation in the World Cup.

The national football team of Jordan ended its match against its Algerian counterpart with a loss of 2-1 on Tuesday, as part of the second round of the events of Group Ten in the 2026 World Cup.

The Nashama advanced in the first half with a goal scored by Nizar Al-Rashdan in the 36th minute, before the Algerian team managed to turn the score around in the second half through Nadir Ben Bouali in the 69th minute and Amin Gouiri in the 82nd minute.
