Statistics That Made the Event in the Algeria vs Jordan Match

Khaberni - The match between Algeria and Jordan in the second round of Group Ten in the 2026 World Cup held an exceptional evening for the Algerian team, after "Al-Khadr" turned a defeat into a precious 2-1 win, in a match that rewrote a number of historical records in the Algerian and World Cup annals.

The confrontation entered history through a series of unprecedented statistics and anomalies, whether at the level of both teams or the players.
Algerian comeback and Jordanian precedence

The Algerian team achieved their first-ever World Cup win after having been behind in the score, turning a one-goal deficit into a 2-1 victory.

This achievement becomes even more significant considering that "Al-Khadr" had failed to win in the previous ten occasions when they conceded the first goal in World Cup matches, settling for three draws and suffering seven defeats.

In contrast, the Jordanian team continued its remarkable historic start in the tournament, after becoming the first team to score in each of their first two World Cup matches since Ivory Coast did the same in the 2006 edition, when they scored in their first three matches.
Mahrez and Mandi.. The Algerian night of experience

The match saw the Algerian team captain Riyad Mahrez enter the record books from the widest doors, as he became the oldest player to start a match with Algeria in World Cup history at the age of 35 years and 121 days.

Mahrez was not alone in the list of veterans, as defender Issa Mandi ranked second among the oldest players to start a match with Algeria in the World Cup, at the age of 34 years and 243 days, indicating the pivotal role of the experienced generation within Vladimir Petkovic's lineup.
Benbouali writes his name in the World Cup records

Nadir Benbouali made history widely by becoming the second Algerian player to score a World Cup goal after coming on as a substitute, following Abdelmoumene Djabou who scored against Germany in the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Benbouali's uniqueness did not stop there, as he became the first player representing a Hungarian club to score in the World Cup since Hungarian star Lajos Detari, who scored against Canada in the 1986 edition, ending a nearly 40-year wait.
Gouiri decides at the last minute

Amine Gouiri's goal in the 82nd minute carried double value, as it was not just the winning goal for Algeria, but it also became the latest goal that "Al-Khadr" scored during the normal time in their World Cup history.

The goal rewarded the continuous Algerian pressure in the second half, and delivered one of the most thrilling victories for the team.
Alwan among the top dribblers of the 2026 World Cup

Despite the loss, Jordanian Ali Alwan made his mark in the tournament records, having made 9 successful dribble attempts against Algeria.

This number is the second highest for a player in a single match during the 2026 World Cup, behind Belgian Jeremy Doku who recorded 10 dribbles against Egypt, reflecting the notable individual performance presented by the "Nashama" striker.
Petkovic edges closer to the top of Bosnian coaches

The match also marked a special record for coach Vladimir Petkovic, who increased his tally to two wins in the World Cup finals.

Petkovic is now the second-most successful Bosnian coach in the tournament's history, only surpassed by the late Ivica Osim who achieved 3 victories, bringing the Algerian coach closer to the historical summit of Bosnian coaches in the World Cup.
