Khaberni - The Qatari Ministry of Interior announced, early Monday, that 54 people were injured and 18 others were missing due to an explosion that occurred on Sunday evening in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area in Qatar, which hosts the world's largest liquefied natural gas center, resulting from a "technical accident".
The Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday evening that an explosion occurred in one of the factories in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area in Qatar, due to a technical accident. The ministry stated in a declaration that the explosion occurred due to a technical malfunction during the operation in one of the factories in Ras Laffan, resulting in a number of injuries, without any leakage that poses a risk to the safety of individuals, and indicated that the relevant authorities continue to deal with the incident.
Qatar Energy stated in a subsequent statement that "the accident occurred due to an operational malfunction during the start of operations at the Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is used for local gas needs, leading to an explosion followed by a fire".
The company added that "emergency response teams intervened immediately to contain the flames and control them", confirming their success in extinguishing the fire and preventing it from spreading to neighboring facilities, while investigations continue to determine the causes of the accident and assess the damages resulting from it.
