Khaberni - Footage that spread widely on the internet on Sunday morning caused concern and fear among the residents of Hassi Messaoud in Algeria, after a lioness was seen wandering suddenly inside a residential neighborhood.
The video clips showed the lioness moving through the streets of the neighborhood, which increased the fears of the citizens, especially families and children, amid circulating questions about how it escaped and reached the city center.
In this context, the civil protection services in Ouargla reported that their teams intervened at seven ten in the morning, following a report from citizens about the presence of a lioness in one of the streets of the 1850 residence neighborhood.
The civil protection clarified that their agents secured the area by closing the entrance to the building where the lioness was found, and a specialized team from the civil protection in Ghardaïa was called to handle the situation. The animal was encircled using a cage and a piece of meat was used to lure it before it was controlled and removed from the place.
For his part, the media officer at the civil protection, Corporal Ibrahim Ben Aioua, stated in statements reported by the "El Khabar" newspaper, that the building the lioness took refuge in consists of three floors and contains six residential apartments, noting that the residents stayed inside their homes and closed their doors as a precaution until the operation was finished. He also clarified that no injuries or human losses were recorded during the incident.
