Khaberni - French national team captain Kylian Mbappe confirmed on Sunday that his 100th international match against Iraq in the 2026 Football World Cup on Monday, "will be a historic number that is special".
The Spanish Real Madrid striker (27 years old), the world champion in 2018 and the runner-up of the World Cup in 2022, made his first appearance with the national team on March 25, 2017, against Luxembourg, and broke the “Les Bleus" scoring record (58) after scoring two goals against Senegal on Tuesday (3-1) in France’s first match in the North American finals.
Mbappe said in a press conference "It is always a pleasure to get the chance to play with the national team. Nothing compares to playing with the national team. The number 100 is a historic number, and it will be special for me, but the bet will remain the most important, we need to win to qualify."
Following their victory over "The Lions of Teranga", France can book their ticket to the Round of 16 if they win on Monday in Philadelphia.
Mbappe, who has scored 14 goals in three editions of the World Cup, was also asked about the record for the number of goals in the finals, which is currently shared by German Miroslav Klose and Argentine Lionel Messi (16). He said, "I knew Leo would score (against Algeria) because he always scores. I am right behind him. I will not be here at the age of forty, you would have removed me before that (smiling). I do not look far ahead, I want to enjoy this tournament."
