Khaberni - Results announced by the Ethiopian Election Board today, Sunday, show another comfortable parliamentary majority win for the ruling Prosperity Party led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in this month's elections.
The ruling party secured 438 seats out of 486 in the House of Peoples' Representatives, according to a tally by "France Press" after the results were announced by the election board chairperson Miletork Hailu.
Thus, the Prosperity Party won about 90 percent of the contested seats.
The Election Board stated that the elections were held in 501 out of 547 constituencies in the country, with about 40 million voters participating in the voting, while the total number of registered voters was 54 million.
The board explained that security concerns prevented the opening of 143 polling stations on the day of the election, pointing out disruptions in several locations in the Amhara and Oromia regions, without giving any details.
"Aspedis" secured the passage of over two thousand commercial ships in the Red Sea.
More than 40 parties competed in the elections against the Prosperity Party, but most of these parties lack financial support, with the ruling party winning in 64 constituencies without any competition.
The biggest rival, the "Ezema" party, entered the race with 293 candidates, compared to 461 candidates for "Prosperity".
Voters cast their ballots to choose members of the House of Peoples' Representatives who, in turn, select the Prime Minister, with this vote expected to take place between the end of September and October.
