Khaberni - Fawaz Al-Baqour, the former president of the State Security Court, stated that the execution of death penalties was frozen; however, the increase in cases related to undermining national security was one of the main reasons for resuming executions.
Al-Baqour clarified through radio statements that the implementation was suspended, and that the last execution was carried out against Sajida al-Rishawi, pointing out that the surrounding circumstances and the increase in crimes, particularly those targeting public security personnel and armed forces, justified the enforcement of the penalty.
He explained that the implementation of death sentences does not mean carrying them out against all the convicted, but rather against those who targeted homeland officers, including cases involving targeting anti-drug operatives and the Al-Salt case in which several security officers were martyred.
He added that some criminals took advantage due to the absence of execution of death penalties, and the implementation acts as a direct deterrent, noting that the final decision to carry out the execution of the death penalty is directly linked to the royal will.
Al-Baqour mentioned that those who are to be executed are informed about 48 hours beforehand, and they are allowed to request a visit from anyone they want, reaffirming that drug use does not exempt one from punishment unless the person was forced to consume drugs, and those who use drugs knowingly bear full legal responsibility.
