An Egyptian Parliament member condemned the incident of running over the tea seller in the Pyramids Gardens area, considering that the accident represents a human tragedy and a complete crime that necessitates a decisive stance from all state institutions and society to confront the phenomenon of children and minors driving cars.
Abdul Nabi said in a statement that allowing children to drive vehicles has not just been a minor traffic violation but has turned into a dangerous phenomenon threatening citizens' lives daily. He noted that some minors now hold vehicles that have become moving killing tools on streets and public roads.
He added that the legally defined age to obtain a driving license at 18 years old was set not arbitrarily, but to ensure a minimum level of maturity, awareness, and responsibility among drivers, insisting that bypassing these controls opens the door to recurring humanitarian disasters paid for by the innocent.
He emphasized that the family bears the primary responsibility for these incidents, pointing out that allowing a minor to drive a car reflects a state of recklessness and lack of awareness of the risks involved, confirming that what some see as a form of indulgence towards children could turn into a direct cause of loss of lives and the destruction of entire families’ futures.
MP Alaa Abdel Nabi called for the necessity of increasing the penalties imposed on parents who allow their minor children to drive, to include mandatory imprisonment and significant fines for the vehicle owner, considering these incidents as serious negligence that leads to death, thus achieving the necessary deterrence and reducing the recurrence of such tragic accidents.
He stressed that protecting citizens' lives necessitates applying the law firmly and not tolerating any practices that jeopardize community safety and security, emphasizing that stopping the loss of lives on the streets starts with each party bearing its legal and moral responsibilities.
