Khaberni - A Chinese car company is preparing to break into the Australian market with a product that competes in the category of economical electric cars.
According to a report published by "Drive", it has been confirmed that the Leapmotor B03X model 2027 will be on display in Australian showrooms by the end of this year, as a car that could become one of the most affordably priced electric cars in the country.
Similar in size to the Hyundai Kona Hybrid or the BYD Atto 2 electric SUV, the B03X, a small SUV - below the larger model B10, which matches the size of the Atto 3, - will be included in the Chinese brand Leapmotor's lineup.
Prices are scheduled to be confirmed as its arrival in Australia approaches in the fourth quarter of 2026 (from October to December), subject to any delays, but figures in overseas markets indicate that it could become one of the cheapest electric cars in the country.
It is estimated that the highest versions of B03X would sell for up to about 27,000 Australian dollars, possibly starting from 25,000 Australian dollars or less.
This would place it in direct competition with the BYD Atto 1, which is priced between 23,990 and 27,990 Australian dollars, making them among the most affordably priced electric cars in Australia.
B03X is much larger than Atto 1, with five seats, a higher SUV body, and a bigger trunk.
It is also expected to offer a longer driving range, as B03X is sold in China with two battery options: a 39.8 kilowatt-hour air-cooled battery or a 53 kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled battery.
They provide driving ranges rated at 403 kilometers and 505 kilometers respectively, according to the CLTC lab test.
As for Atto 1 in its Chinese version, it is rated with a range that varies between 305 and 405 kilometers according to the CLTC standard, depending on batteries with capacities of 30.1 kilowatt-hours and 38.9 kilowatt-hours.
In Australia, the models carry range ratings ranging from 220 to 310 kilometers according to the more stringent WLTP standard, using batteries with capacities of 30.1 kilowatt-hours and 43.2 kilowatt-hours, suggesting that Leapmotor might offer a locally varying range of about 320 to 420 kilometers.
It is also competing with the larger BYD Atto 2, which announces a range of 345 kilometers according to the WLTP standard, with a recommended retail price of 31,990 Australian dollars.
B03X combines its batteries with two options of front electric motors: a motor with a power of 70 kilowatts and a motor with a power of 90 kilowatts, along with the capability of fast charging with direct current from 30% to 80% in just 16 minutes with a 53 kilowatt-hour battery.
Included equipment available for the Leapmotor B03X in the Chinese market include 18-inch aluminum wheels, a large centralized 14.6-inch touch screen, leather-like upholstery seats, in addition to an electrically adjustable driver's seat. The car is also equipped with a 12-speaker audio system, automatic climate control system, alongside V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology, which allows the use of the car's battery to power external electric devices.
