Khaberni - The Iraqi General Customs Authority announced today, Thursday, the return of an imported shipment of calves from Jordan after laboratory tests confirmed their infection with foot-and-mouth disease.
The Iraqi Customs stated in a statement that the staff of the Trebil Customs Center (Karama Border Center), in coordination with the relevant veterinary bodies, were able to detect a shipment of imported calves belonging to one of the companies, after confirming their infection with foot-and-mouth disease, based on official reports and tests issued by the Anbar Veterinary Hospital.
It confirmed that the management of the center took the necessary legal actions, where a specialized committee was formed with members from the related bodies to supervise the return of the shipment to the Jordanian side, implementing the approved technical recommendations, and ensuring the prevention of the transmission of epidemic diseases and maintaining the safety of livestock and food security in the country.
The Iraqi authority emphasized its continued tightening of control over border centers and coordination with the supporting specialized bodies, to prevent the entry of any shipments that pose a risk to health security and the economy.
