Khaberni - Fares Al-Noor, a member of the presidential council in the "Establishment" alliance, which was formed by the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, announced his resignation from the council membership and from his position as governor of the Khartoum region, stating that the scene has shifted from seeking stability to targeting Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.
Al-Noor was the governor of the Khartoum region within this framework that is not recognized by the Sudanese government.
The resigned leader stated in a recording obtained by Al Jazeera that his resignation "came after a deep review of the work course during the past period, and after an accurate evaluation of his ethical responsibility towards the Sudanese people and the future of the homeland."
He added that he supported the idea of "Establishment" as a temporary transitional step to serve the citizens, preserve the remaining national institutions, contribute to creating a conducive environment for peace, and present a responsible administrative model that helps transition from a state of war to a horizon of statehood and stability.
However, unfortunately, "the scene has shifted to target the unity, sovereignty, and independence of Sudan," he continued.
The recent weeks have witnessed increasing defections from the Rapid Support, including among the notable defectors are Ali Abdullah Rizq Allah, known as "Savana," and Al-Noor Al-Qubba, one of its founders and prominent field commanders.
"Phantom government"
In February, the Rapid Support Forces, major political forces, and armed movements including the Popular Movement - North led by Abdulaziz al-Hilu, signed a political charter in Nairobi, Kenya, to form a parallel government under the slogan "Peace and Unity."
A month after the charter was ratified, the coalition factions signed a transitional constitution stating that Sudan is "a decentralized, secular, democratic state with a Sudanese identity, based on the separation of religion from state."
In July, the coalition announced the formation of a government in the areas controlled by the Rapid Support, and named governors for the regions.
It also decided to form a presidential council consisting of 15 members headed by the leader of Rapid Support Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hamditi) and Abdulaziz al-Hilu, leader of the Popular Movement - North as his deputy, with Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi as the prime minister.
At that time, the Sudanese government condemned the declaration of a "phantom government," saying that the participation of civilian components in this declaration "confirms their involvement in the conspiracy orchestrated in full coordination with the Rapid Support to seize power by force on the morning of April 15, 2023."
