Khaberni - A wildlife park in Australia, on Wednesday, announced the discovery of the Tasmanian devil, Mary, in an ""unstable condition"" after more than two weeks since her escape.
The name ""Tasmanian devil"" refers to a carnivorous marsupial that lives in the wilderness in Tasmania, the island part of Australia.
The search team managed to find the female of this animal less than two kilometers from its habitat in the "Paradise Country" park on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
The park stated in a release that "upon finding her, Mary was in an unstable condition (...) and needed veterinary care, so she was urgently transported to a specialized veterinary hospital."
It added that the two-year-old furry animal, described by its caregivers as very shy, is currently in the hospital undergoing tests.
Approximately 12 wildlife experts, supported by a tracking dog and a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology, participated in the search for Mary after her widely covered media escape.
The park believes that Mary made "an unusual large leap" to start her adventure that lasted 15 days.
This animal can live up to six years, with males weighing up to 14 kilograms and standing about 30 centimeters tall at the shoulder, according to the Tasmanian environment department.
Despite being widespread in Tasmania, this species is classified as endangered, facing a significant threat from a contagious cancer known as "Tasmanian devil facial tumor disease."
