Khaberni - The Democratic Congo team surprised its rival, the Portugal team, by forcing a 1-1 draw in their first match within the eleventh group of the 2026 World Cup.
The Democratic Congo team earned its first point in the history of its World Cup participation despite returning to the World Cup for the first time since it last participated under the name Zaire in 1974.
Joao Neves opened the scoring for the Portugal team at the sixth minute, but Yohan Wissa equalized for Democratic Congo at the fifth minute of added time of the first half.
The substitutions made by the Spanish coach of Portugal, Roberto Martinez, did not succeed in changing the result, as he deployed Fransisco Conceicao, Rafael Leao, Nelson Semedo, and Gonzalo Ramos but the result remained unchanged.
Portugal will play against Uzbekistan in the next round while the Democratic Congo team will face its counterpart from Colombia.
