Khaberni - Professor Park Sung Soo, a professor of gastrointestinal surgery at Anam University Hospital in South Korea, revealed the key factors that increase the risk of stomach cancer.
The doctor said in an interview with the Russian agency Novosti: "Stomach cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in South Korea, and the National Cancer Registry for the year 2023 suggests that it is among the top five most diagnosed cancer types in the country."
He added: "Our analysis showed that infection with Helicobacter pylori increases the risk of stomach cancer by about twice, while excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk by between 1.5 and 2.2 times, and a diet high in salt and pickled foods increases the risk by between 1.4 and 2 times, while smoking increases the risk by about 1.3 to 1.8 times."
The doctor pointed out that the consumption of refined grains, red meat, processed meats, and high-fat dairy products are also factors that increase the likelihood of the disease.
It is noted that a team of scientists led by Professor Park Sung Soo analyzed 507 research papers from international medical databases PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane, evaluating the impact of 139 factors, including diet, lifestyle, environment, medications, infections, and genetic characteristics, on the risk of stomach cancer and its prevention.
