Khaberni - Dr. Tatiana Feldbush, an ENT specialist informed that headphones can damage the ears when listening to loud music for long periods.
According to her, there is a risk of hearing loss and tinnitus with both wired and wireless devices. The health effects appear when listening to music at a volume level exceeding 85 decibels, especially in noisy environments like public transport, airplanes, and gyms.
The specialist recommends following the "60/60 rule" to reduce this risk - listening to music through headphones for no more than 60 consecutive minutes, and using a volume level that does not exceed 60% of the maximum.
She says: "If a person must use headphones for extended periods, it is better and safer to use large over-ear headphones or noise-canceling headphones, as the person does not wish to turn up the volume too high when using them."
Dr. Dmitry Goren, another ENT specialist, advises listening to music through headphones for no more than two consecutive hours. One should start at a low volume then gradually increase it to a comfortable level. If a person cannot hear others while listening to music, then they should lower the volume.
