Khaberni - An American judge ordered the imprisonment of Timothy Hudson, the teen accused of raping and killing his stepsister Anna Kiebner during a family trip, expressing shock at the "level of depravity and mental disorder" of the suspect.
Hudson, who is 16 years old, was allowed to live with his family under supervised probation since his arrest in February, but recently, U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin J. Torres ruled that staying at home with children posed a risk, and that he might harm himself.
Torres stated in the court document: "The strength of the evidence here strongly suggests the necessity of his detention. By focusing solely on the sexual assault charge, the government's case regarding forced rape is clear and compelling."
He continued: "Indeed, it hints at a level of mental disorder and lack of remorse which itself raises serious concern that the defendant could explode in anger at any moment, despite the sincere and serious efforts by his caretakers to ensure that this does not happen."
Torres also ruled that it was necessary to detain Hudson as he was being tried as an adult after initially being charged as a minor, adding: "Had the defendant been charged with committing such a serious crime only when he was 18 or older, he would likely have been detained on that basis alone."
He added: "The level of depravity and mental disorder associated with committing such a brutal crime would be very hard for most law enforcement officials to overlook."
An order was issued to place Hudson in Citrus County Jail in Florida, where he will undergo mental health screening.
According to court documents, he will remain in the juvenile section of the jail, and will still be allowed to receive visits and use the internet to communicate with his family.
Hudson has pleaded not guilty (denied the charges), and his trial is scheduled to start in September.
