Long Heatwave How Will It Affect Jordan

Khaberni - The regional "Arab Weather" Center warned on Tuesday, based on the latest computer simulation model outputs, of a prolonged and exhausting heatwave starting from next Sunday (June 21), set to affect five Arab countries precisely coinciding with the astronomical start of summer.

The meteorologists explained that the scientific reason for this harsh wave is due to the intensification of the semi-tropical high-pressure system over the Arabian Peninsula, the Arab Gulf, and Iraq. This weather system acts to:

Intensify heating: Increase the heating of the air mass in the lower atmospheric layers due to the heat dome phenomenon.

Threaten populated areas: The scorching center of the hot mass approaches populated assemblies for several consecutive days.

Computer maps indicate that the five directly affected countries are: southern Iraq, Kuwait, eastern Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (especially the inland and desert areas), where temperatures are expected to approach or exceed 50 degrees Celsius for the first time this year.

The center also warned that the danger of this wave is linked to its exhausting duration, with temperatures staying above the mid-forties during the day, which increases the chances of heat stress and sunstroke, particularly with the increase in humidity levels in coastal areas during the night hours.

Key medical and meteorological recommendations:

Regulate and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Significantly increase the intake of water and hydrating liquids without waiting to feel thirsty.

Strict warning: Never leave children inside closed vehicles, and ensure that cars are emptied of flammable materials (such as lighters, perfumes, and hand sanitizers).
