The Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Authority submitted a third official protest letter to the International Civil Aviation Organization "ICAO" regarding the continuing Iranian attacks on Kuwait International Airport.
In an official statement, the Authority explained that the latest attack resulted in human injuries and severe material damage to radar facilities and equipment associated with air traffic management, which had serious effects on the safety and security of civil aviation.
In response, the authorities took urgent precautionary and operational measures, including a partial suspension of air traffic for a limited period before normal operations were later resumed.
The Authority pointed out that this letter is the third it has directed to the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding the ongoing Iranian attacks on Kuwait International Airport.
Violation of International Law
The Kuwaiti Authority confirmed that the continuous targeting of civil aviation facilities and infrastructure designated for air navigation services constitutes a serious violation of the International Civil Aviation Convention and a violation of relevant international rules and principles.
The Authority urged the International Civil Aviation Organization to take the necessary actions within its authority to document these violations and consider their serious implications on regional and international air navigation security and safety.
It confirmed that Kuwait retains all its legal rights arising from these attacks and its right to take all appropriate actions in accordance with the provisions of international law and relevant international agreements.
Kuwait had reopened its airspace and resumed scheduled flights after a precautionary closure that lasted for more than two hours, coinciding with an announcement by the Kuwaiti military of the success of air defense systems in intercepting hostile targets.
On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced their responsibility for the attacks, confirming that they targeted with missiles and drones military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, describing the attack as a response to American strikes targeting areas inside Iran.
It should be noted that this protest letter is the third directed by Kuwait to the "ICAO", following two similar letters submitted on March 22 and June 7, protesting against the repeated Iranian violations of Kuwaiti sovereignty and airspace.
