Khaberni - The United States expects to complete the construction of the wall promised by President Donald Trump at the southern border by the end of 2027, as announced by the Commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection, Rodney Scott on Tuesday.
Scott reported during an event hosted by the "Migration Policy Center in Washington" that the border wall, made of reinforced metal bars, is intended to stretch from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico, excluding certain areas "where we have decided that we do not need it".
"The main border wall will be completed by the end of 2027," he added.
He explained that electronic surveillance equipment and other items will complement the wall and are expected to be in place by "approximately July, maybe August 2028 at the latest".
Other barriers will be erected along the Rio Grande on the Texas border, which stretches over more than 1900 kilometers between the two countries.
Scott said, "We will have a complete system that includes a secondary wall in areas where we need it."
The wall aims to reduce illegal immigration and drug smuggling from Mexico, which has declined, according to official indicators.
However, Scott noted that the physical wall will not be sufficient to curb clandestine activities. Tunnels, drones, and other means are already being used to monitor patrols and transport drugs.
