Details of the Murder of a Bodybuilding Coach in Baghdad with 17 Bullets

Khaberni - Bodybuilding coach "Ghaith Jassim", met his death at the hands of an individual in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

The incident occurred yesterday, Thursday, inside a gym in the "Al-Jihad" district west of the capital.

According to preliminary information, the cause of the incident is merely a "dispute over the use of a piece of gym equipment".

A source from the Baghdad police told the Rudaw Media Network on Friday (June 5, 2026) that the problem arose between Ghaith Jassim and a 16-year-old boy; after the coach prevented the boy from using a machine designated for weight training, a verbal altercation ensued between them.

The security source added that the boy left the hall, then returned after a short while with a "Kalashnikov" type weapon, and fired 17 bullets at Ghaith.

It should be noted that Ghaith Jassim, known by the nickname "Captain Ghaith", was a well-known coach in Iraqi sports circles, and he had a wide following on social media, where he consistently posted nutritional and sports advice and programs for youth.

The Baghdad police have arrested the killer, and investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
