Khaberni - Barcelona, the Spanish champion, has contracted with English winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, in a deal that could reach a value of 80 million euros (93 million US dollars).
The Catalan club explained in a brief statement that Gordon has signed a contract "lasting five seasons until June 30, 2031".
The 25-year-old player scored 17 goals with Newcastle this season, including 10 goals in the Champions League, ending the season as the team's top scorer.
Gordon's joining is aimed at strengthening Barcelona's offensive line, with the veteran Polish striker Robert Lewandowski leaving at the end of his contract, and the possible departure of the English Marcus Rashford after his loan period from Manchester United ends.
The champion of the Spanish league still aspires to make additional deals in the coming weeks, with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez linked to a move to Catalonia, alongside the club not ruling out a new attempt to keep Rashford.
After three years of cutting expenses, and with the partial reopening of Camp Nou stadium following renovation works, Barcelona now enjoys a wider financial margin within the strict Financial Fair Play rules of the Spanish league.
The departure of Lewandowski and the end of Rashford's loan give the club additional space to move in the transfer market, with the possibility of other players leaving such as the Syrian-born Roni Bardagji, Ansu Fati, and the German goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen.
Gordon's deal is the second biggest sale in Newcastle's history, after the transfer of the Swedish Alexander Isak to Liverpool for 125 million pounds (168 million US dollars) last summer.
According to media reports, the English club may move to sign Spanish Real Betis winger, the Moroccan Abdel Samad Zalzouli, to replace Gordon's departure.
Gordon had joined Newcastle from Everton in 2023 for 45 million pounds, with his former club retaining 15 percent of the profits from any future sale of the player.
