Khaberni - The death of Captain Ghanem after being run over while delivering orders has brought the issue of social protection for transport and delivery app workers back into focus, amid demands for providing social security coverage for this category.
Social insurance and protection expert Musa Al-Subaihi noted that several fatalities had been recorded recently among captains working on passenger and delivery apps without sufficient social protection for themselves and their families.
Al-Subaihi explained that the deceased captain was married with a child and expecting another, highlighting that his exclusion from social security deprives his family of important insurance benefits, emphasizing that including workers in this sector under the social security law has become a pressing necessity.
Al-Subaihi called on official entities, including the Land Transport Regulatory Authority and the Social Security Corporation, to create a legal mechanism for including tens of thousands of app captains in the social security system, suggesting that part of the annual fees imposed on them be allocated to support their subscriptions and provide the necessary social protection.
