Due to a Type of Desserts Over 40 Cases of Food Poisoning in Tunisia

Khaberni - Gafsa Governorate in southwest Tunisia recorded more than 40 cases of food poisoning, while the public prosecutor opened an investigation into the incident.

The hospital director in Gafsa, Reda Al-Mahmoudi, confirmed the recording of more than 40 cases of food poisoning, following the consumption of pastries (Mille-feuille) from one of the pastry shops in the city of Gafsa.

Regarding the health condition of the victims, he confirmed that it is currently stable. Seven victims were hospitalized while the rest left after receiving the necessary first aid. Analyses are being conducted for other victims who visited the hospital.

The public prosecutor authorized an investigation into the incident, while the Regional Food Safety Authority took the necessary legal steps.

Omar Abdali, the local coordinator of the National Authority for Health Safety of Food Products in Gafsa, affirmed that field inspections revealed numerous violations related to sanitary conditions, along with non-compliance with the standards adopted in the purchase and use of manufacturing materials, which necessitated the decision for temporary closure pending the completion of other legal procedures and necessary analyses.

It should be noted that a number of the victims were received at the Hussain Bouziane University Hospital in Gafsa, where they were given the necessary first aid, and their health condition was described as stable.
