What happens to your blood pressure when you take creatine daily

Khaberni - Recent scientific reports have revealed that the effect of the creatine supplement, commonly used among athletes, on blood pressure is still unresolved, as studies have shown varied results between decreases, stability, or slight increases in some groups.

Creatine is commonly used to enhance physical performance and increase muscle strength, but research addressing its relationship with cardiovascular health has indicated that it might indirectly affect blood pressure by improving blood flow and reducing oxidative stress, which could contribute to a slight reduction in some individuals.

On the other hand, other studies have found no significant change in blood pressure in athletes or healthy adults who used creatine over various periods, suggesting that its effect may be limited or clinically irrelevant in many cases.

However, some research has warned of the possibility of higher blood pressure in certain groups, especially those with chronic illnesses or those taking high doses for extended periods, as this may lead to increased nervous system activity and narrowing of the blood vessels.

Creatine is manufactured from amino acids and is converted by the body into a primary energy source within the muscles, while a portion of it is naturally produced in the body, and the rest comes from food or supplements.

General recommendations suggest that safe dosages range from 3 to 5 grams daily, warning against excessive use that may cause side effects such as stomach disturbances or fluid retention.

Experts caution against using creatine without medical supervision in individuals with kidney diseases, high blood pressure, or certain mental disorders, while it is not recommended for children and pregnant women due to insufficient safety data in these groups.
