Khaberni - The Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee visited the Jordanian Uranium Mining Company, a subsidiary of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, today, Sunday, where it met with the company's Chairman, Khaled Toukan, and General Manager, Mohammad Al-Shanaq, to learn about the company’s role in exploration, mining, and the projects it implements in the uranium sector.
The parliamentary delegation included MPs Jamal Qamouh, Khader Bani Khalid, Rakine Abu Henieh, and Iman Al-Abbasi.
The MPs emphasized the importance of the role the company plays in developing the uranium project in central Jordan and extracting “yellowcake,” praising its efforts in implementing a promising national strategic project that contributes to supporting the national economy and enhancing the investment environment in the mining and energy sectors.
On his part, Toukan provided an overview of the Jordanian nuclear program and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Jordan, illustrating the role of nuclear science and technology in supporting the energy, industrial, medical, agricultural, and scientific research sectors.
In turn, Al-Shanaq presented the stages of development of the Jordanian uranium project, and the achievements the company has made in exploring uranium resources in central Jordan according to international standards, pointing out the establishment and operation of advanced analytical laboratories and R&D laboratories to conduct the necessary technical studies for uranium extraction.
Al-Shanaq affirmed that the company conducts its operations according to the best global practices and in accordance with regulatory, legislative, and environmental requirements.
At the end of the visit, the parliamentary delegation took a field tour that included the company's laboratories and the pilot plant, during which they were briefed on the work mechanisms and technologies used in testing and extraction processes.
