Khaberni - Director Mohamed Diab denies accusations of his film "Asad" supporting the "Afrocentric" movement, a day after the premiere in cinemas.
On Facebook today, Friday, the director clarified that the movement falsely claims that the current Egyptians are invaders, asserting the falsity of this narrative.
He mentioned that the first scene shows the kidnapping of slaves from Africa and their sale in Egypt, which disproves their connection to the original Egyptians. He revealed preparations for a Pharaonic film that will debunk the illusions of the movement, and called for careful consideration before making accusations.
He pointed out that the film's creators are patriots who spent 3 years producing it in Egypt, and denied rumors about the film covering the "Zanj Rebellion in the Abbasid era," explaining that it addresses the mid-19th century and the decision to abolish slavery. He invited the audience to watch the film before judging it.
In closing his statement, Diab extended an invitation to everyone to watch the film, affirming that critique is welcome, but the matters are indeed present in the film itself.
