Department of Statistics More than 247 million households in Jordan by the end of 2025

Khaberni - Population estimates issued by the Department of Statistics General reveal that the number of households in the Kingdom reached 2,475,767 by the end of 2025, with an average household size of 4.8 persons, compared to 5.4 persons in the 2004 census, reflecting a trend towards smaller household sizes.

The department stated in a statement on Thursday, on the occasion of the International Day of Families, which falls on May 15th every year, that the data showed that 20.8% of households are headed by females, versus 79.2% headed by males.

In terms of fertility, the total fertility rate (the average number of children a woman of reproductive age 15–49 years can bear) decreased from 3.5 children in 2012 to 2.6 children in 2023, according to the results of the 2023 Population and Family Health Survey, (a decrease of one child in ten years) which enhances the trend towards forming smaller households.

As for housing conditions, the 2023 Population and Family Health Survey results indicated that 97.5% of households live in apartments or houses, with a high availability of basic services inside the homes.

In terms of technology, the results of the 2024 Information Technology Survey in homes, conducted by the Department of Statistics General, showed that 99.6% of households have a mobile phone, and 34.3% have a laptop, while Internet service is available to 96.5% of households, reflecting a widespread adoption of digital technologies.

The economic dependency ratio for Jordanians reached 306.7 in the year 2025, meaning that every 100 economically active individuals support about 307 individuals outside the workforce, marking a slight increase of 1.1% compared to 2024 when it was 303.5 according to the Labor Force Survey results of 2024, which reflects a relative stability in the population structure.
