Khaberni - The Public Prosecutor of Major Crimes has decided to detain the accused of killing his mother in the south of the capital, Amman, for 15 days pending investigation, and has placed him under the supervision of doctors at the National Center for Mental Health; to verify his mental and psychological health and his understanding of his actions during the commission of the crime.
The accused, a man in his thirties, had killed his seventy-year-old mother by strangulation and beating her with a stick on her head inside her home in one of the southern areas of the capital, Amman.
The young man was charged with "murder of ascendants" pursuant to the provisions of the Jordanian Penal Code.
According to investigations, the accused had been seeing a psychiatrist in a private clinic during the past year.
On the day of the crime, the killer took advantage of his mother being alone in the kitchen, and attacked her with several strong blows to the head with a stick, before he proceeded to strangle her.
