Khaberni - Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohamed Al-Widian, president of Amman Arab University, the Deanery of Student Affairs organized the "Crown Prince Chess Championship" in its second edition for Jordanian universities, as part of a range of extracurricular activities that the university is keen to organize to support youth energies and to hone the intellectual and creative skills of students. The championship was inaugurated on behalf of the university president by Dr. Mohamed bin Tareef, the dean of student affairs.
The tournament was a manifestation of the pioneering and excellence approach represented by His Highness the Crown Prince, aiming to instill a culture of strategic thinking and positive competition among Jordanian university students, alongside enhancing cultural and intellectual mobility, and strengthening the bonds of cooperation and constructive interaction between Jordanian higher education institutions, in an atmosphere marked by enthusiasm and a spirit of challenge and fair competition. Dr. Bin Tareef noted during the opening that chess is not just a competitive game but a strategic tool for developing planning and critical analysis skills, and a platform to enhance the values of high sportsmanship. He described it as the "game of the elite" that requires a unique mix of intelligence, patience, and ethical sophistication. The championship witnessed broad participation from (19) Jordanian universities, with (92) students competing under the direct supervision of international referees from the Royal Jordanian Chess Federation, which gave the tournament an aura of absolute integrity and high transparency, with the results as follows:
1- First place: Team of Jordan University of Science and Technology.
2- Second place: Team of Yarmouk University.
3- Third place: Middle East University.
At the end of the competition, Dr. Bin Tareef honored the winners, in the presence of Dr. Rami Hanandeh, assistant dean of student affairs, alongside the Student Affairs Deanery staff. Shields and trophies were awarded to the universities and students in recognition of their excellence in the championship. Dr. Bin Tareef praised the continuous support provided by the presidency of Amman Arab University for the success of quality student activities, appreciating the great efforts made by the organizing committees and participating universities, which contributed to the championship reflecting a spirit of civilized competition and organizational professionalism.
It is noteworthy that Amman Arab University pays special attention to organizing an annual chess tournament at the level of Jordanian universities within the campus, as part of its efforts to support intellectual and mental activities. The championship annually witnesses exciting and challenging competitions, attracting broad participation from university students from across the kingdom.
