Khaberni - The Land Transport Regulatory Authority decided to amend the fare for the passenger transport service using smart applications for the year 2026, based on the instructions for regulating passenger transport and to ensure alignment of prices with the fare of ordinary taxi meters, with an added minimum of 20%.
The director-general of the authority, Engineer Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, sent an official letter to companies (Careem, Uber, Petra Ride, Jeeny, and Taxi AF), demanding their compliance with the prescribed pricing within a maximum period of one week from its date, affirming that the authority will take the necessary legal actions against non-compliant companies.
According to the document, the authority set the meter opening value during the daytime at 46.8 piasters, while the fare per kilometer reached 33.6 piasters, and the waiting fare per minute settled at 5.76 piasters, to ensure a balance of operational costs with the quality of service provided.
The decision also included adjusting the night fare, where the meter opening value rose to 48 piasters, and the price per kilometer reached 39.6 piasters, while the waiting fare was set at 6.79 piasters per minute, in line with the nature of work during the late-night hours.
This decisive decision aims to unify the taxi meter fare operating within the jurisdiction of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority and Greater Amman Municipality, and directly link it to the smart applications fare, to prevent price gouging and ensure fair competition among all transport modes in the kingdom.
Through these amendments, the authority aims to protect the rights of both passengers and captains, ensuring the continuity of the smart transport sector within clear legal and financial frameworks, preventing tampering with electronic meters, and ensuring the transparency of trip cost calculation according to the adopted standards.
The technical and supervisory staff in the authority will begin monitoring the companies' responsiveness to the new amendments immediately after the given deadline, with affirmation that any violation of the set values in the table will face strict administrative penalties that may lead to direct legal accountability of the operating companies.
