Khaberni - Officially, work began on Monday morning to adjust public transportation fares throughout the kingdom after the decision came into effect; The adjustments included raising the taxi meter starting rate to 39 piastres during the day and 40 piastres at night, along with an increase in the fare per kilometer.
Mohammad Al-Hadid, the head of the taxi offices syndicate, explained that inspection centers have started adjusting the meters to ensure compliance with the new percentages approved by the Standards and Metrology Organization.
In the same context, the decision also included raising the fares of "Amman Bus" and "Bus Rapid Transit" (BRT) by 5 piastres within the capital's limits, while transportation fares for buses operating on provincial lines, especially Amman-Zarqa and Amman-Madaba lines, increased by 10 piastres.
Moreover, raising the transportation fare via smart applications by 20% came into effect, according to the statement made by Abla Al-Washa, the spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, covering all types of public transportation except currently in Aqaba.
Lina Abu Aita, the acting director general of the Standards and Metrology Institution, announced the extension of working hours at meter adjustment centers until 7:30 PM, in order to accommodate the number of public vehicles.
This update in fares covers taxis, service taxis, medium and large buses, as part of the authority's plan to keep up with operating costs, amidst calls for citizens to comply with the official fares announced starting from today's transactions.
