Khaberni - Al-Asa'asa village, located south of Jenin governorate, witnessed a painful and shocking incident where a Palestinian family was forced to exhume their deceased elder Hussein Asa'asa's (85 years old) grave and move his body just hours after his burial.
The tragedy began when settlers from the nearby "Sanur" settlement attacked the funeral procession, throwing stones and smashing vehicles, despite the presence of Israeli army forces at the location, according to local reports.
After the burial ceremony, the residents were shocked to see the settlers heading towards the cemetery and beginning to dig up the grave. When the locals tried to defend the deceased's dignity, the occupying forces prevented them from reaching, and threatened the family with disgracefully removing the body if it was not urgently relocated, claiming that the cemetery was close to the "Tarsala" settlement hub.
Under this pressure and threat, seven young men from the family were forced to exhume the body and relocate it for reburial in the nearby Al-Fanduqmiya village.
The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) and local Palestinian media attributed this incident to a series of terrorist violations committed by the settlers against the inhabitants of the villages and towns in the West Bank.
The reports confirmed that these policies are no longer limited to harassing the living in their homes and lands but have extended to encroach upon the dignity of the dead and their right to be buried with dignity within their own land, owned for decades.
The images and scenes that spread across digital platforms caused a wide uproar and a state of shock and disapproval, documenting the difficult and painful moments when the young men were forced to dig up the grave and remove the body under the eyes of the occupation soldiers and settlers, a scene described by observers as embodying the peak of moral degradation and an assault on human and religious values explicitly.
On the Israeli side, Channel 12 covered the incident, confirming that the settlers forced the Palestinians to exhume the body from its grave and relocate it to another place.
The channel reported an Israel Occupation Army statement claiming that it "condemns any attempt to act in a manner that affects the sovereignty of the law and the dignity of humans and the deceased," in stark contradiction to its troops' presence at the site providing protection for the settlers and facilitating the commission of the crime.
In a comment documenting details of the crime, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights office in Palestine, Ajith Sungai, reported that Israeli settlers forced the family of Hussein Asa'asa to exhume the grave of their father just hours after his burial in Al-Asa'asa cemetery south of Jenin, while Israeli security forces looked on.
Journalist Hafez Abu Sabra reiterated the crime occurred with the justification that the grave was near "Sanur" settlement, while Yamen Saad described the scene as reflecting the extent of the invasion of Palestinian dignity, living and dead.
Mohammed Al-Khalayleh summarized the situation by stating that this brutality exceeded all human terms, where the family was forced to engage in an act unacceptable to any rational or conscience worldwide.
