Ginger Doses Do They Boost Immunity or Just a Marketing Myth

Khaberni - Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics Specialist Anna Lozon warns against the trend of "quick doses" of ginger, known as "ginger shots", which are being promoted as immune boosters, stating that these claims are "closer to myth than science".

Lozon explained that the immune system is a complex biological system that requires continuous balance, and not a “sudden dose of nutrients” which lacks any real therapeutic effect, saying that what is delivered in a small bottle cannot substantially alter immune functions.

The specialist expressed major concerns about some influencers promoting these products to patients undergoing medical treatments, considering this "irresponsible behavior" that could lead to severe interactions with medications such as blood thinners or cancer treatments.

She also pointed out that ginger has real side effects, as it may increase the risk of bleeding for users on anticoagulant drugs, and may cause disturbances for gallstone patients or stomach irritation for those suffering from ulcers or reflux, in addition to potentially affecting diabetic patients in unforeseen ways.

Lozon clarifies that the main trick lies in marketing focus, as these "doses" contain a limited amount of ginger, despite being sold at a very high price compared to their actual cost.

She emphasizes that scientifically effective alternatives to boosting immunity do not come from a quick drink, but from a comprehensive lifestyle, the most important of which are sufficient sleep for more than 7 hours, strength training exercises, consuming fiber to support gut health, and managing chronic stress.

Anna Lozon, the nutrition specialist, concludes that "immunity is not built in a moment, but is made daily through consistent habits, not through a magical dose."
